KRAAL
Hvad vil det sige at være indfødt? At være brun? I den dansante og musikalske soloperformance, KRAAL, undersøger Jason Jakobs kolonial mentalitet – den traumatiske arv fra flere årtier med slaveri, kolonialisme og apartheid, der fortsat gennemsyrer det postkoloniale Sydafrika. Igennem en performativ drømmerejse forsøger Jakobs at forbinde sig med sine forfædre i håb om at kunne bygge en åndelig bro mellem fortid og nutid, der kan forløse og heale et kollektivt traume.

KRAAL er en hyldest til fortællingens kraft og en konfrontation med en repressiv racialiseret virkelighed.

Jason Jacobs (han/de) er en prisvindende sydafrikansk multikunstner, hvis teater – og filmarbejder kredser om kolonialisme og kulturelle narrativer.

OM BLACK TO NORMAL FESTIVAL
Den 05.–18. oktober 2025, åbner vi dørene til den første udgave af Black To Normal Festival – en ny festival med fokus på mangfoldig scenekunst og samtaler, der undersøger vores fælles historie og fremtid. Festivalen indtager København med gæstespil fra Sydafrika, afro-dramatik fra London og Norden, en legende skattejagt for børnefamilier, artist talks, hosted conversation og community meet.

Programmet er kurateret af kunstnerisk leder Marie-Lydie Nokouda og sætter spot på de fortællinger og stemmer, der sjældent får plads i dansk scenekunst. Med blik på vores fælles koloniale arv skaber festivalen rum for nye forbindelser på tværs af landegrænser og livserfaringer. Festivalens aktiviteter finder sted på flere lokationer i København.

KRAAL - a soul-stirring performance about colonial repression and heritage

What does it mean to be Indigenous? To be black? In the dansant and musical performance, KRAAL, Jason Jacobs explores colonial mentality – the legacy of trauma, due to years with slavery, colonialism, and apartheid, that still permeates postcolonial South Africa. Through a performative dream trip, Jacobs tries to connect to his forefathers in hope of building a spiritual bridge between the past and the present that can unblock and heal a collective trauma.

KRAAL is tribute to the power of storytelling and a confrontation with a repressive racialized reality.

About JASON JACOBS
Jason Jacobs (him/they) is an award winning multi-disciplinary artist, whose theatre- and film works revolves around colonialism and cultural narratives.

ABOUT BLACK TO NORMAL FESTIVAL
From October 16–18, 2025, we open the doors to the very first edition of Black To Normal Festival – a new festival filled with artistic experiences, debates, and community-driven activities that weave together past, present, and future. The festival takes over Copenhagen with guest performances from South Africa, Afro-drama from London and the Nordic countries, a playful treasure hunt for families, panel debates, artist talks, and workshops.

The program is curated by artistic director Marie-Lydie Nokouda and shines a light on the stories and voices that rarely find space in Danish performing arts. With a focus on our shared colonial legacy, the festival creates space for new connections across borders and life experiences. Events will take place at multiple venues throughout Copenhagen.
